Get Mentally Motivated!


 So you are physically ready to make changes – now you have to get your mind right!  I knew that was the place I really needed to start – I had to get committed and I knew to be a success that I needed to know what would keep me motivated – what would keep me going and going and going….like an energizer bunny… I needed to determine how I would struggle through those times that I would want to give up and how not to lose the battle. 

Surround yourself with positive & supportive people that will also hold you accountable: There are those that will support and build you up and those that will always try and tear you down. Spend more time with the ones who will encourage not discourage.  Let them know you do NOT want to cheat and to please not tempt you at all.  As much as I get mad at my daughter for telling my trainer what I am eating or how I am exercising – I do like that she cares enough to keep me accountable.  It is frustrating when I want to take that little bitty bite but I know she is watching…..

 Use visual motivators: An inspirational quote or poster, or a picture of yourself (all fat and ugly) or even your goals written on a note on the fridge.  These visual reminders can keep you focused on a change you’re trying to make in your life. A cartoon or joke can help keep you from taking things too seriously.

 Set small realistic goals:  Make goals that you know you can achieve, take baby steps….then increase them gradually, take bigger steps and soon you will be making giant leaps of faith! 

 Be hungry for knowledge (not food):  Find books about making changes, read other people’s stories, read blogs, look at health magazines or Google ways to improve.  I am hungry for knowledge on new exercises, new ways to prepare healthy meals, or read inspirational stories or quotes…or maybe I am just hungry… (Nope – hungry for knowledge)                                                                                                                                     

Give yourself a pep talk and often: One of the most powerful influences on your attitude and personality is what you say to yourself. It is not what happens to you, but how you respond internally to what happens to you. This helps you understand that you really are in control of this issue and that you can accomplish it!

Get healthy: What’s good for the body is also good for the brain. Another reason not to put off taking care of yourself. Get sleep, take care of yourself.  So many times people will tell me that they feel guilty if they do something for themselves.  Well I understand because that is how I used to be.  I realized that I am God’s child and he wants me to care for myself. 

 Keep a positive attitude: Choose to focus on what you can do, what you have to work with and how you can make it work for you.  Get rid of negative thoughts, energy and people or they will force you to failure!

 Take a break (or a hot relaxing bubble bath): You don’t have an endless supply of energy and drive. Now and again you need to take some time to take recess and re-energize your emotional and spiritual batteries.  Determine what is a great way for you to relax – I LOVE hot baths with great smelling bubbles.  Maybe it is talking to a friend or complete isolation – find YOUR thing…  Don’t stress – don’t beat yourself up if you make mistakes.  We are not Jesus after all – we do make many mistakes.  The important thing is to learn from them!

 Share with others: I started my blog and made myself accountable to others, but also to inspire others.  It helps keep you focused and motivated.  Just last night a young girl whispered in my ear that I looked great and I can’t tell you how much that inspired me.  You will keep your fire and passion if you are helping and inspiring others!  Invite friends to exercise with you – I never can believe how fast time goes by when I am riding my cardio bike when I am talking to someone – I look down and I have ridden 8 miles….

 Keep things changing:  Don’t just do the same ole – same ole…do cardio one day, weights yoga the next.  It will keep you excited and not bored.  Change is life giving!  It helps us grow into someone greater than we already are.  It keeps us motivated and striving to see what else may be out there.  Something better is always ahead. 

 Make the commitment:  Commitment is a line you cross…it is the difference between dreaming and doing.  Keep moving forward!

 Have FUN!!!!!   If you are having fun, focusing on the positive, sharing with friends, having success – your life will begin to change like you cannot imagine.  I know that mine did and I am so happy that I did take the first step. I have to say there are times that I mess up, times that I don’t want to keep doing it, times that I am too darn tired…but then a friend or something I read or my trainer will pump me back up and I get even more excited!  Hang in there and stay motivated!


Physical Fitness – Do two sets of your 5 favorite exercises 15 times each  (15 sit-ups, 15 burpees (Really could that be someone’s favorite exercise?), 15 jumping jacks, 15 pushups, 15 lunges with weights…15 sit-ups, 15 burpees, 15 jumping jacks, 15 pushups, 15 lunges with weights

Mental Fitness – Take a picture of what you look like now – find a picture of what you hope to look like – tape it where you will see it daily. 

Spiritual Fitness – Enjoy the Knot’s prayer……Tie a note in a string and then untie.


Prayers for you as you get mentally motivated to reach your goals….be consistent, persistent and continue every day!

Pray for me as I need to remember that I  need to relax and listen to myself more often… and pray as I continue this awesome journey of physical, mental and spiritual fitness.
