The perfect woman

I am sure that many of you have heard of the Proverbs 31 woman…it is basically a description of the “perfect woman”. Well it sounds like many women that I know, they just don’t see it in themselves. Women are amazing! We have so many demands on our time from family, cooking, working, managing household budget, making sure kids do homework, attending cheer practice, running everyone everywhere everyday…whew…makes my head spin. Most women are on that treadmill and it is hard to get off….if only it was a treadmill and we were getting exercise. I thought for so long that all the running around I was doing was enough exercise but I just kept becoming bigger and more unhealthy. I finally took control with God as my trainer of my life and was able to adjust my priorities. Turns out….I wasn’t even on my old list….since I decided to work on my mental, spiritual and physical fitness and I found time for God and me….I have more time…how did that happen? Please read Proverbs 31….study it, google, YouTube…discuss with friends and make a commitment to be that woman…I love Proverbs 31 ministries and recommend you sign up for their devotional daily.

Proverbs 31: 8-31 Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Help people who are in trouble. Stand up for what you know is right, and judge all people fairly. Protect the rights of the poor and those who need help. How hard it is to find the perfect wife. She is worth far more than jewels. Her husband depends on her. He will never be poor. She does good for her husband all her life. She never causes him trouble. She is always gathering wool and flaxand enjoys making things with her hands. She is like a ship from a faraway place. She brings home food from everywhere. She wakes up early in the morning, cooks food for her family, and gives the servants their share. She looks at land and buys it. She uses the money she has earned and plants a vineyard. She works very hard. She is strong and able to do all her work. She works late into the night to make sure her business earns a profit. She makes her own threadand weaves her own cloth. She always gives to the poor and helps those who need it. She does not worry about her family when it snows. She has given them all good, warm clothes. She makes sheets and spreads for the beds, and she wears clothes of fine linen. Her husband is a respected member of the city council, where he meets with the other leaders. She makes clothes and beltsand sells them to the merchants. She is a strong person, and people respect her.She looks to the future with confidence. She speaks with wisdomand teaches others to be loving and kind. She oversees the care of her house. She is never lazy. Her children say good things about her. Her husband brags about her and says, “There are many good women, but you are the best.” Grace and beauty can fool you,but a woman who respects the Lord should be praised. Give her the reward she deserves. Praise her in public for what she has done. ERV Bible

So pray daily that God guides you to be this “perfect woman”…notice there is nothing about looks or sex…it is all about being a woman who is well thought of and respected…you are the Proverbs 31 gal…just step up with confidence and imagine it, vision in your mind, share it with someone…be it! I’m praying for you!

Working out is hard….but so is life

3 John 1:2 Dear friend, I know that your spiritual life is going well. I pray that you also may enjoy good health. And I pray that everything else may go well with you. NIRV Bible

So there can be many struggles in your quest for change. For me, when my health is getting better and I’m losing weight, enjoying working out seems like there is stress from somewhere else. Floor in bathroom needs repaired, need new carpet, teenagers within close proximity…..and the list goes on. I wonder if there is ever a time where everything will be going great at the same time? It is very easy to get discouraged and impatient with God. When I am down and out I usually go to Psalms and David has experienced and wrote about my issues. Here is a great example…

Psalm 13:1-6 Lord, how long must I wait? Will you forget me forever? How long will you turn your face away from me? How long must I struggle with my thoughts? How long must my heart be sad day after day?How long will my enemies keep winning the battle over me? Lord my God, look at me and answer me.Give me new life, or I will die. Then my enemies will say, “We have beaten him.”They will be filled with joy when I die. But I trust in your faithful love.My heart is filled with joy because you will save me. I will sing to the Lord.He has been so good to me.

It is good to share with others and talk through your issues. It’s nice knowing other people are as crazy as I am….we are…

Life is hard, but making time for God is tough too. You can do this…find your way to make it work and stick to it. Working out is hard and when your doing that extra mile or lifting more than last week…it is so worth it! It may seem to be a struggle in the midst of the event but what an excitement when you have worked through it and accomplished the goal you set out to do. Get a trainer, a friend or someone to celebrate with you. I had a friend text me this week that she had lost 3 lbs over Thanksgiving….she was excited and she needed to share it. Working out is hard and so is life but we are all in this together so drop and give me Twenty…..that can be Bible verses, push-ups, sit-ups, prayer for twenty minutes, etc. looking forward to hearing about your journey of change.

Give and Recieve cheerfully

2 Corinthians 9:6-15 Remember this: The one who plants few seeds will have a small harvest. But the one who plants a lot will have a big harvest. Each one of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give. You should not give if it makes you unhappy or if you feel forced to give. God loves those who are happy to give. And God can give you more blessings than you need, and you will always have plenty of everything. You will have enough to give to every good work. As the Scriptures say,“He gives generously to the poor;his goodness will continue forever.” God is the one who gives seed to those who plant, and he gives bread for food. And God will give you spiritual seed and make that seed grow. He will produce a great harvest from your goodness. God will make you rich in every way so that you can always give freely. And your giving through us will make people give thanks to God. The service you are offering helps God’s people with their needs, but that is not all it does. It is also bringing more and more thanks to God. This service is a proof of your faith, and people will praise God because of it. They will praise God that you freely share what you have with them and with all people. They will praise him to see you following the Good News about Christ that you openly accepted. They will praise God because you freely share with them and with all people. And when they pray, they will wish they could be with you. They will feel this way because of the great grace that God gave you. Thanks be to God for his gift that is too wonderful to describe.

Have you ever been around someone and they are always so giving and you knew they would do anything for you? I am like that…I love helping, giving gifts and doing for others. I learned an important life lesson recently. It is also VERY important to let people do for you too. I have always thought I have everything I need so I don’t need anyone to do for me or buy me presents or offer to help. I don’t want people to “waste” their time or money on me. I’m good, happy and so blessed. When I was on my Spiritual retreat I found out that people in the darkest jungles, people in the harshest prisons, and people who didn’t even know me were praying for me….I said for me… name. Ok this just isn’t right….I should be praying for them. Why would they pray for me to open my heart to God. I mean I have a great life, family, church, job, etc. it overwhelmed me a lot. I started sobbing in fact. I am not deserving of these gifts of prayers. How could our world be so mixed up? Then one of our speakers shared how much it meant to these people to know they were making a difference in our lives and how even a hardened criminal felt like he was making a difference by praying for me. We were told that people cared about us and loved us in Christ and that we should accept these gifts of prayer. Wowww how amazing that people are feeling better, feeling empowered by giving me something! I just had to let go and let God!

After that experience, I realized people want to give me gifts or help me and in some weird way….I have to let them. It makes them feel good and useful. I had a family member that when we visited her would always proudly have gifts that we gave her out or displayed so we knew she loved them. It pleased me so much to know that what we gave her brought her joy. She relished every gift no matter if she needed it or not. She was so appreciative and we always enjoyed giving to her and being with her. We always wanted to visit her.

Some people just don’t enjoy receiving and it is really sad. People want to give gifts, help or give prayers…..just think how much it means to the giver. They want the joy of knowing they can do something for you. Let others have the same joy that you have when you give. People don’t want one sided relationships. They want to give and receive. So as the holiday season approaches, learn to give but also receive cheerfully. Being able to give to others is so uplifting and exciting….try doing both this year; to really understand it is good to give and receive. This is good for you physically, mentally and spiritually.

Physically – receiving prayers for healing, actively accepting friends and being social, and participating with others is so good for you physically. It keeps you fit!

Mentally- you will not be alone. Please allow others to do for you, to give you gifts or help. Think of it that you are helping them feel worthy and they can give you joy. People don’t want to be around someone who doesn’t let them do anything for them. Receive cheerfully…it may make someone’s day to know they did something for you!

Spiritually – The best gift of all is Jesus….are you ready to receive him? Be a receiver!
Receive Jesus as Your Savior. Choosing to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is the most important decision you’ll ever make!

God’s Word promises, “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom. 10:9–10,13).

By His grace, God has already done everything to provide salvation. Your part is simply to believe and receive. Pray out loud, Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Savior. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me! I receive you in my heart. I receive this gift from God for eternal life! The very moment you commit your life to Jesus Christ, the truth of His Word instantly comes to pass in your spirit. Now that you’re born again, there’s a brand-new you!

Here is another blog about being a cheerful receiver.

Thankful and be positive!

How can you not reflect on Thanksgiving of all the things you are thankful for? I have so much to be thankful for and I am so blessed. Thank God, thank family, friends, coworkers, those who serve whether it is a waitress to a soldier…give thanks.
“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
― Abraham Lincoln

So often, we find the negative things in life instead of the positive. I know it’s hard sometimes but think positive. I have learned so many times that when I think negative thoughts, negative things happen. When I am positive, surprisingly positive fabulous things happen. So I encourage you–for your mental health. Be positive, say I can! Be thankful….look for the unexpected things that may not be so evident at first.

Today You Can
by Catherine Pulsifer

Today you can choose to count your blessings
or you can count your troubles.
Today you can live each moment
or you can put in time.
Today you can take action towards your goals
or you can procrastinate.
Today you can plan for the future
or you can regret the past.

Today you can learn one new thing
or you can stay the same.
Today you can seek possibilities
or you can overwhelm yourself with the impossible.

Today you can continue to move forward
or you can quit.
Today you can take steps towards resolving your challenges
or you can procrastinate.

You see today the choices are up to you
in deciding what you do today.

“When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.”
Willie Nelson

Love this website for the perfect quote when I need it.

Find a friend, message me if needed….sometimes you just need someone to provide courage….go forward and start the change. I did and I couldn’t be happier or more thankful!

Lets talk turkey…or should I say, let’s eat turkey!

So how did that delectable but awkward bird, the turkey, become famous for the Thanksgiving meal? I researched this and found many variations…apparently they didn’t have turkey that first gathering together…they had venison, fish, etc. Years later, the governor of MA requested that his people get a turkey but that referred to any wild bird…so it’s hard to know the real reason but I think we would all agree…Thanksgiving and turkey just go together.

Turkey is low in fat and high in protein. It is an inexpensive source of iron, zinc, phosphorus, potassium and B vitamins. A serving of turkey is a 2 to 3-ounce cooked portion. The Food Guide Pyramid suggests 2 to 3 servings from the meat group each day. Wowww…sounds like the perfect meat for us to eat! One of the other things I read in my research was that turkeys were easy to fatten up, low costs, and could serve a large group.

So this year, I have changed my way of eating….notice I didn’t say that I was dieting. I have tried to eliminate starches, sugars and dairy so what am I going to eat with my turkey? I have found that PaleOMG is an awesome website with great recipes. Yummy! I tried the Sausage with carmelized onion stuffing today and it was great!

I can have other vegetables liked mashed cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cranberries sweetened with honey, cinnamon, orange peel and cloves and I am getting a pretty amazing meal. Focus on fresh and natural. I was able to get some mustard greens at the farmers market and they were tasty also.

So no pecan pie but really, a hand full of fresh picked pecans taste even better.

I’m excited to be able to eat my turkey but also about trying some changes in my menu. It’s good to make changes. Be committed to these changes, don’t set yourself up to fail. Drink lots of water, don’t hang out in the kitchen or standing around the table. Be prepared, have snacks…nuts and apple. Eat healthy…eat turkey…..and all the sides!! Be healthy!

Scripture prescription

Scripture prescription.

Scripture prescription

We all know when we are sick, we go to the doctor and she gives us a prescription to be filled. Well that is just like our life; when we are “spiritually sick”, we need to get a prescription filled to help us get well also. So whenever you have been sick, did you ever not get your prescription filled….why? We’re you too tired to deal with it, or was your cold better? Did you ever think if you took vitamins, ate healthier, rested, etc that you could have prevented this sickness? In our spiritual lives, we need to make sure we do something daily to prevent us from being spiritually sick…read our Bible daily, pray continually, love ourself and others…there are really great instructions in the Bible… why don’t we get “filled”.

Below is some scripture that I think really is the best scripture prescription and I am going to read it and follow it, hope you will too! I didn’t even realize how clear God was in Romans 12 until this year…our church has encouraged everyone to memorize it. At first, I was excited because I used to be great at memorizing…then after a few verses I realized I wasn’t the sharp cookie that I once was. I continue to read daily and am getting better at the memorization. Each Sunday in Moving On Up…our kids church…we work on the memory verses for that month…I usually discuss with the kids what it means and it really helps me to understand too. So, think about how you would teach a child and then talk about each verse in that context. It keeps it simple and simple is good!

Colossians 22-25 Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.

Romans 12:1-21 So I beg you, brothers and sisters, because of the great mercy God has shown us, offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him—an offering that is only for God and pleasing to him. Considering what he has done, it is only right that you should worship him in this way. Don’t change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to understand and accept what God wants for you. You will be able to know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. God has given me a special gift, and that is why I have something to say to each one of you. Don’t think that you are better than you really are. You must see yourself just as you are. Decide what you are by the faith God has given each of us. Each one of us has one body, and that body has many parts. These parts don’t all do the same thing. In the same way, we are many people, but in Christ we are all one body. We are the parts of that body, and each part belongs to all the others. We all have different gifts. Each gift came because of the grace God gave us. Whoever has the gift of prophecy should use that gift in a way that fits the kind of faith they have. Whoever has the gift of serving should serve. Whoever has the gift of teaching should teach. Whoever has the gift of comforting others should do that. Whoever has the gift of giving to help others should give generously. Whoever has the gift of leading should work hard at it. Whoever has the gift of showing kindness to others should do it gladly. Your love must be real. Hate what is evil. Do only what is good. Love each other in a way that makes you feel close like brothers and sisters. And give each other more honor than you give yourself. As you serve the Lord, work hard and don’t be lazy. Be excited about serving him! Be happy because of the hope you have. Be patient when you have troubles. Pray all the time. Share with God’s people who need help. Look for people who need help and welcome them into your homes. Wish only good for those who treat you badly. Ask God to bless them, not curse them. When others are happy, you should be happy with them. And when others are sad, you should be sad too. Live together in peace with each other. Don’t be proud, but be willing to be friends with people who are not important to others. Don’t think of yourself as smarter than everyone else. If someone does you wrong, don’t try to pay them back by hurting them. Try to do what everyone thinks is right. Do the best you can to live in peace with everyone. My friends, don’t try to punish anyone who does wrong to you. Wait for God to punish them with his anger. In the Scriptures the Lord says,“I am the one who punishes;I will pay people back.” But you should do this:“If you have enemies who are hungry, give them something to eat.If you have enemies who are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this you will make them feel ashamed.” Don’t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil by doing good. ERV version Bible

These are such awesome words of guidance and I am praying for each person that reads this to “get their scripture prescription filled.”

Pray for me as I grow in my Christian life and ministry. Thanks…
Lots talk Turkey next time…
